Denim Fit & Care Guide

A considered approach to Denim fit, fabrication and longevity.

Denim is a constant in a modern wardrobe — equal parts functional and refined. The right pair should feel intuitive to wear and effortless to style. This guide is designed to simplify the process, from understanding fit to caring for your denim so it holds its shape and character over time.

A well-fitting jean is defined by three key elements: rise, leg shape and fabrication. Understanding how these works together will help you find your perfect fit.

Leg Shape & Silhouettes

Straight Leg:
A style that suits most body shapes with a consistent line from hip to hem. Clean, versatile and enduring.

Wide Leg:
Fuller through the leg with a sense of ease and movement.

Cropped:
Cut above the ankle to create a shorter leg line. Ideal for those seeking petite denim, offering a proportioned fit without needing alterations.

Relaxed:
Looser through the leg with a more casual sensibility. Designed for comfort without losing structure.

Barrel Leg:
Cut with a curved shape through the leg, tapering slightly at the ankle. Adds volume and structure, for a more directional silhouette.

The Rise

High Rise:
Sits at the natural waist, creating definition through the midsection and elongating the leg. Works well with tucked or cropped silhouettes.

Mid Rise:
A balanced, everyday option that sits just below the waist. Easy to style and widely flattering.

Low Rise:
Sits on the hips with a more relaxed feel. Best paired with longer lines or looser proportions.

"Denim is one of the few pieces I come back to again and again. When the fit is right, it just works. It becomes part of your everyday without needing to think about it."

- Vanessa Spencer, The New Trend Brand Director

Denim Washes

The wash of your denim, often informs the fit and how it it will work within your wardrobe. We always recommend trying on various styles in different washes to find your perfect fit.

Light Wash:

Casual and relaxed, this wash works well for off-duty dressing and summer styling.

Mid Blue:

A classic, everyday wash that pairs easily with most pieces.

Dark Indigo Wash:
More refined and appearance and ideal for elevated or evening dressing.

Black Wash:
Clean and structured - a sharper alternative to traditional blue.

White Denim:
A fresh neutral that can be worn all year round, traditionally a summer staple though increasingly styled through Winter.

Fabrication

Rigid Denim:

Made from 100% cotton with a structured feel. It will soften and shape to the body over time.

Comfort Stretch:

Offers slight flexibility while maintaining structure. Ideal for everyday wear.

High Stretch:

Soft and flexible with a closer fit. Designed for ease and movement.

Understanding Denim Quality

Premium denim is defined less by the geography and more by the quality of the cotton, weaving techniques and finishing process.

Many of TNT's brands including SLVRLAKE, Citizens of Humanity, DARKPARK, Haikure, and Agolde prioritise premium fabric sourcing and construction, working with leading mills globally rather than being defined by a single origin.

Italian Denim:

Recognised for its innovation in wash techniques and softer hand feel. Italian mills often blend craftsmanship with modern technology, creating denim that balances structure with comfort.

Japanese Denim:

Often produced on traditional shuttle looms, resulting in denser, more durable fabric with a clean edge finish. Typically associated with rigid, vintage-inspired denim that develops character over time.
