Introducing RÓHE S22

The latest collection of ready-to-wear from Róhe has just dropped. We chat to Kate Rohrer, Róhe Founder and Creative Director, to discover more about the Róhe woman and the inspiration behind the S22 collection.

We are so excited for the new Róhe collection to drop at The New Trend. Where did you get the inspiration for the Spring ’22 collection?

For our SS22 collection, we focused on the quintessential for a relaxing endless summer with lots of elegant and effortless vacation dressing.

Our first step in the design process of a new collection is fabric sourcing. The materials we select have a major impact on the durability and lifespan of each garment.

Continuity is also extremely important to us, when we find a reliable and qualitive material in line with the standard of Róhe, we continue to work with that fiber for future collections.

Turn up the brightness and embrace the bold is what sums up the colour scheme for this collection. Citrus shades are mixed with tones of fern greens and pops of orange to give it the sunny energy that we need. Toned down with bottle green with lime pinstriped linen and retro 70’s moss green bouclé in coordinating knits.

We were inspired by the flair of wrapped silhouettes, translated into our fluid wraparound blouse and a draped knotted dress, which give a very resort feel to the collection. A sculptural tailored blazer paired with a wide leg pant with a wraparound waistband detailing gives a modern and subtle tailored look. Dresses play a key role in this collection, varying from a tie dye printed mini dress to a day-to-night black Maxi dress. This collection perfectly suits the DNA of Róhe, a personal and purposeful wardrobe that is anything but disposable.

Describe the Róhe woman?

For me, the Róhe woman perpetuates a sense of subtle feminine luxury. She is an innovator, with an appreciation for fabrics, shapes and colour. She is sensitive and her love for fine materials is strong, not being afraid to push her limits when combining tones and textures. Her fervent admiration for functional clothing is substantial, with a particular focus on consciously sourced materials and subtle tailoring. An active lifestyle does not stand in her way. Therefore, combining technical and classical styles is essential. She seeks to build a personal wardrobe, that is anything but disposable and transcends seasons.

Could you share with us a bit about how the re-brand came to life?

We felt it was the moment for a change. With all the developments in the world, specifically within the creative industry, we strongly believe that this was the right moment to adapt our strategy. It was a big change for us, in a positive way, and we felt that this was the moment to take our brand to the next level.

A big wish of Maickel (my husband and business partner) and mine was to launch a men’s division. We ended up at a crossroad during every brainstorm session as we could simply not connect the lines, nor could we find the right timing to introduce a menswear line.

We were known for our girls and womenswear collections, but these grew into separate brands with their own personalities. Suddenly I had an eye-opener and decided the re-brand was also the right moment to add menswear alongside our womenswear collections.

A complete transformation was needed, with a new re-brand including a name change. Men and women became Róhe. A change that was needed for the new aesthetic direction of the brand.

Transparency became key, creating new diverse content and lifting our standard in every aspect of the brand. We wanted to give clients a better and honest insight into the way our garments are produced, showing the personal connections we have with our factories and suppliers, such as the family-run fabric mill Fulpucci.

The shift did not change our focus; creating from emotion, a strong line pulled through our collections. This is something that we advanced with our special object collaborations by working together with local artists, giving a look into my personal admiration for the art and design world.

What is your must-have piece from the collection and how would you style it?

The piece that I could not wait to add to my wardrobe is the Ruby coat. A super transitional trench with statement raglan sleeves in a structured cotton, something that makes my heartbeat faster… The silhouette is strongly embedded in the cotton, meaning it will keep its shape for many years.  The trench is so versatile and pairs well with many colors and has made it to my staple wardrobe. I wear it with a bright shirt underneath or on top of a tailored look and use this coat as the finishing touch.
